A big day of Finnish rugby yesterday saw Warriors pick up an emphatic 50 – 19 win at home against Jyväskylä in the Championship. The bonus-point victory also saw them recapture top spot but second-placed Tampere are only four points adrift with a game in hand (they play Eagles in two weeks’ time). In the women’s Championship, it was the JRC visitors that came away happy after securing a 5 – 22 win against the Warriors while a travelling HRC beat hosts Pori 10 – 34. In Div 1 North, a very close game saw Vaasa out edge Pori 17 – 22 but the home side came within 7 so earned themselves a losing bonus-point. The weekend’s Div 1 South tournament was hosted by Turku Eagles who walked away from the day 2 – 2. The big winners out of the five teams competing was again Old Town Shamrocks (Porvoo) who have won all but one of their 16 matches played. With 62 league points already in the bag the side have already secured top spot (with one tournament to spare) and will face the runners-up in the Div 1 semi-finals at home on 21.9.
